Challenge : Be calm
( Take Time )
Level 1 - For everyone
Rules of the Game
The challenge starts the evening of October 14, 2011. Here are the rules of the challenge « BE CALM » :
- That evening :
Unplug the TV, VCR, sound system, radio, and computer. The idea is to spend the weekend without the so called
"essential commodities" that are not really essential. (As we are reasonable, we leave all the major kitchen
appliances plugged in, as well as the heating system and washer.)
- Put away :
Walkman, I-pod, cell phones, lap top, Blackberry, watch and clocks. (All of this technology is really useful but let's take a
little break to meet this challenge). In the places where you can still see the time (microwave, cook stove, etc.) put some tape
to hide the information. As for the phone and answering machine, use them only in case of emergency.
Therefore, for the weekend, we put the imposed notion of time on the back burner as it were. Where did the time go? It's up
to you to find out and to evaluate it according to your own perspective.
- Turn off :
All lamps and sources of light and tape up all the light switches. There is no more electrical light left in your home.
Have your flashlights and candles ready to use because the whole weekend will take place without electrical lights.
- For the duration of this challenge, the only reading allowed is the reading of books (magazines and newspapers don't qualify) If you must
buy something, please take time to evaluate the necessity of the article. Is the need justified? Also it would be preferable if you could
pay cash only. No credit cards or debit cards for the duration of this challenge.
- Is it absolutely necessary to use your car? Isn't there a better alternative for this particular weekend?
- During these 2 days: You must go outdoors to practice an activity that you like. It's up to you to deal with the
weather. The people in good health should do a minimum of one hour (you'll have to evaluate that somehow) on the Saturday and one
hour on the Sunday.
- To recognize those who are taking part in the challenge "Be Calm" identify yourself with a bit of GREEN ribbon that you will
wear so that is clearly visible.
- Upon meeting another participant, why not greet him/her and shake his/her hand and give him / her your warmest smile.
- The challenge ends on Sunday night at sun down.
- Taking part in this challenge isn't easy when there are teenagers at home. Make special arrangements with them regarding the use of
CD players, Ipod, MP3 etc.… (Your teenagers might agree to go spend the weekend at a friend's house)
BRAVO! To all those who accept this challenge and take some time for themselves
Following this weekend, share with your loved ones and your colleagues your thoughts on what you have just experienced, and how you
did it, and invite them to join you in the challenge next year.
